How to reproduce silk flower

Seed propagation of silk flower

Sowing is a common method of propagation for silk flowers. Silk flowers can be sown in spring or in autumn.

After the seeds of the silk flower are mature, they can be collected, usually in September, and sown as soon as they are collected, which is autumn sowing. Secondly, you can also store the seeds of the silk flower in sand and sow them in the spring of the following year. After the seeds of the silk flower are sown, they will generally germinate in about 20 to 25 days.

The sowing and seedling raising of silk flowers can be carried out, but the sowing and seedling raising of silk flowers is more difficult because its seeds are difficult to cultivate and not easy to survive, so the sowing and seedling raising of silk flowers is generally not used for cultivation.

Cutting propagation of silk flower

Cutting propagation is the most commonly used propagation method for silk flower. When propagating by cuttings, young branches grown in the current year are generally used for cuttings, which are easy to survive.

The cutting propagation of silk flower is carried out in early spring or rainy season. If the temperature can be controlled, cutting can be carried out all year round. When taking cuttings, choose strong, pest-free young branches grown that year as cuttings. Stick some wood ash on the lower cut of the cuttings to prevent rot. After treatment, the cuttings need to be taken out immediately to prevent wilting.

The temperature for silkworm cuttings needs to be kept at 20℃-25℃ to facilitate rooting. If the temperature is too low, the rooting speed will slow down. If the temperature is too high, the silkworm cuttings will rot.

When the silk flower is being propagated by cuttings, the cutting substrate needs to be kept moist, but not too moist. A certain air humidity must be maintained and good ventilation is required, which is beneficial to the survival rate of the silk flower's cuttings.
