Phalaenopsis seed planting method

Phalaenopsis seed planting method

Preparation before sowing

Make sure the pods are empty. If they are, no seedlings will emerge.

Determine the activity level of the seeds. Generally speaking, Phalaenopsis seeds are less than 11% active.

Sowing method

Natural seeding method

Sow the cracked seeds in the pots of the parent plants. The planting material of the parent plant contains symbiotic bacteria necessary for the germination of Phalaenopsis seeds, but whether the presence of this symbiotic bacteria can make the seeds germinate is also a matter of luck!

The natural sowing method is very simple and suitable for home Phalaenopsis cultivation. However, the success rate of this method is very small, and the editor does not recommend that you use this method to propagate Phalaenopsis.

Aseptic seeding method

First wash and put away the unopened, mature capsules.

Place it in a prepared 75% to 90% ethanol or chloroform solution and soak it for 2 to 3 seconds. Not too much or too little.

After this step is completed, we can use 5% to 10% bleach solution, or 3% hydrogen peroxide, soak for 5 to 20 minutes.

Take out the seeds and soak them in the same disinfected water for another 5 to 20 minutes.

After that, we can use the filtering method, use a professional filter to remove the solution we used for soaking, then take out the seeds, and finally spread the taken out seeds evenly on the surface of the prepared culture medium. Remember to use a fine needle, after all, Phalaenopsis seeds are very small.

Culture conditions: Light intensity: 2000-3000 lux. Lighting time: 10-18 hours, temperature: 20-26℃.

After 9 to 10 months, when the seedlings have grown 2 to 3 leaves, they can be taken out of the bottle and planted in pots.

This method is very rigorous and scientific, and is usually carried out in a laboratory. There are rarely any breeding scenarios that meet the conditions in the home.
