How to propagate cyclamen

How to propagate cyclamen

Select the parent

Healthy plants should be selected as breeding mother plants.

During the flowering period, select plants with good flower color, beautiful flower shape and strong growth as mother plants, place them separately in a sunny and well-ventilated place, strengthen management, control the amount of water, and keep the potting soil slightly dry.

Assisted pollination

2 to 4 days after flowering, gently touch the pedicel to allow the pollen to fall onto the stigma of the pistil. If cross-pollination is adopted, the stamens should be removed when the flower just opens, and the flower should be covered with a plastic bag for isolation. After 3 days, pollen from another flowering plant should be taken for pollination.

Early seed collection

The fruit will mature 3 to 4 months after the pistil is fertilized. To avoid the fruit bursting, it should be picked with the stems before it bursts and placed in a dry place to dry for seed collection.

Fall Planting

Cyclamen seeds are usually sown from August to October.

Soak in warm water for 3 hours before sowing, take out and place in moist sandy soil, keeping the temperature at 25℃. The seeds can be sown about two days after they germinate.

Select sand and breeding soil and mix them as the seedling bed soil. After sieving, put them in a shallow basin and level them. Water thoroughly, then cover the pot with a piece of glass to keep the soil moist.

Seedlings will emerge in about one and a half months. After the seedlings emerge, gradually remove the glass to allow the seedlings to be ventilated and light-permeable. Transplant the seedlings when they have one true leaf, and pot them when they have 3 to 5 leaves. Plant 1 to 3 plants in a 10 cm diameter pot.
