How to deal with lilies after they bloom

How to deal with lilies after they bloom

1. Pruning branches

Many people throw away the bulbs after the lilies have finished blooming. This is actually a waste because lilies have the ability to regenerate and will bloom again next year, so they need to be carefully preserved. After the flowers have finished blooming, the remaining flowers should be removed first. In order to reduce the consumption of nutrients, the flower branches should also be pruned. Use scissors to remove a part, leaving a length of about 20-30cm, and remove the rest of the branches.

2. Application of water and fertilizer

After the flowers fade, you need to control watering and not water it at the same frequency as before. Watering should be determined based on the dryness of the soil in the pot. Only water it if you see it is getting dry. Otherwise, water accumulation will be detrimental to growth. Fertilizer should be applied as usual, but with less frequency, and attention should be paid to the concentration.

3. Bulb Storage

There are two ways to store bulbs. You can wait until part of the bulb withers, then cut off that part, dig out the bulbs and store them in wet sand, spraying water frequently to keep them moist. You can also put it directly in a flowerpot without digging it out, and place it in a ventilated and cool place. After the soil in the pot is dry, water it appropriately. Wait until March of next spring, when the temperature rises, take out the bulbs and take care of them again.
