How to propagate passion fruit

How to propagate passion fruit

Passion fruit cutting time

Cutting propagation generally uses branches with green leaves for cuttings. It can be carried out in northern greenhouses all year round, and can also be carried out in autumn. General family breeding can be carried out in July and August.

Preparation of passion fruit cuttings

When taking cuttings, choose mature and full branches as materials. It is best to have two or three nodes for each cutting. The lower incision should be 1 cm away from the internode, and the upper incision should be 2 cm above the top bud. This is the easiest way to take root. If the material is relatively scarce, you can cut one node as a cutting, but this will slow down the rooting process.

Before cuttings, the cuttings must be treated to promote rooting by soaking the lower part of the cuttings in 3000 to 10,000 times indolebutyric acid solution for 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

The medium for cuttings can be made by mixing 20% to 30% burnt soil with 70% to 80% loose and fertile garden soil or paddy field soil.

Passionfruit cuttings steps

When taking cuttings, keep half a leaf to a leaf on the cuttings and cut off all the tendrils. This will help save nutrients.

When cutting, the lower part of the cutting is inserted into the soil to take root. The insertion depth should reach about two-thirds of the length of the cutting, leaving a bud in the upper part to germinate and grow branches.

After planting, place the nutrient bags on the seedbed and water immediately. The first watering must be thorough, and then water according to weather conditions to keep it moist.

After 30 days, the seedling rate can reach over 85%.

Management of passion fruit after cutting

After cuttings, the humidity of the seedbed should be maintained, and seedlings should be grown in a small arch shed or large greenhouse covered with plastic film. At the same time, water should be applied every day to maintain the humidity.

In winter and early spring, attention should be paid to protecting the seedbed from the cold. For seedlings grown in small arch sheds or greenhouses covered with plastic film, the plastic film should be covered at all times except on sunny days when heat is dissipated.
