What are the ways to reproduce agapanthus

How to propagate Agapanthus: Sowing

Preparation before sowing

The sowing medium for Agapanthus should be loose and fertile sandy soil, and garden soil is best. You can mix some base fertilizer into the potting soil to allow the plants to grow quickly.

Agapanthus sowing

When sowing, the soil in the pot should not be too moist, just slightly damp. After sowing, avoid water accumulation. Wait until the soil in the pot is slightly dry before watering in small amounts. The seedlings will emerge fifteen days after sowing. The seedlings grow slowly. Appropriate topdressing can be used to accelerate the growth of the lily, but it is not advisable to apply nitrogen fertilizer alone, otherwise the seedlings will easily grow too tall.

How to propagate Agapanthus: division

Selection of ramet seedlings

Although Agapanthus grows slowly, as long as it is properly maintained, its slow growth can also bring us surprises. Often many seedlings grow from the roots of an Agapanthus plant, and these seedlings can be used for reproduction without having to wait for them to grow like waiting for seedlings to be sown.

When selecting seedlings for division, choose those with thick and strong stems. Don't consider thin and weak ones.

Division maintenance

Division should be carried out in spring in March and April in combination with repotting, separating the old and densely packed plants. It is appropriate to have 2-3 clumps in each pot. It will bloom two years after division. If it is divided after flowering in autumn, it will also bloom the following year.

Because whether it is sowing seedlings or dividing seedlings, they actually grow very slowly. Therefore, it is necessary to apply appropriate top dressing to speed up its growth and promote early flowering. Phosphorus fertilizer is best.

After the division seedlings are potted, there should be no water accumulation. The soil in the pot should be kept slightly moist or semi-dry. Do not water too much, otherwise the roots will easily rot.
