How to deal with lily after it blooms

How to deal with lily after it blooms

1. Withered flowers and branches

After the lilies fade, the leaves begin to turn yellow and their ornamental value decreases. If the flowers remain on them, it will not only affect the appearance but will also cause rot. The first thing to do is to remove the withered flowers so that they can no longer hang on the branches. The flower branches also need to be trimmed, but not to the bottom. A section needs to be left, retaining a length of 20-30 cm.

2. Water and Fertilizer Management

After the flowers fade, the demand for water decreases significantly, and the watering frequency can no longer be the same as before. The plant tends to be dormant, and only needs watering once in a while. If you give it too much water, the bulbs inside will rot. The demand for fertilizer is relatively higher, because nutrients need to be accumulated for flowering next year, so fertilizer application cannot be stopped. It is sufficient to maintain a frequency of 1-2 times a month. Fertilization can be reduced in winter.

3. Remove dead branches

The flowers usually fade at the end of October. After a while, the weather gradually turns cooler and the branches will wither. At this time, you can cut off this part. The bulbs inside do not need to be dug out and can be stored in a cool place.

4. Replanting

When you wait for the spring of next year, which is around March, you can dig out the bulbs and replant them in the pots.
