How many rice crops can be grown in a year?

The number of times rice is planted in a year is determined by the climate of each region. Rice in the warm areas of southern China can be planted twice a year , while rice in Northeast and North China can generally only be planted once a year. The rice sowing time is usually based on the variety of rice. Early rice is generally sown in late March in spring, mid-season rice is sown in April, and late rice is sown in mid-June.

Rice growing conditions

Rice is suitable for growing in warm, humid areas with plenty of sunshine. The optimum temperature for rice seedling growth is about 32°C, and the optimum temperature for rice flowering, fertilization and filling is 25-30°C. The growth temperature should not be too high. Rice is a short-day plant. Without light, it cannot carry out photosynthesis and cannot provide organic nutrients for the growth of rice seedlings. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the light time during the rice growth period is 8-12 hours.

Rice grows well in slightly acidic soil with good air permeability. The pH value of the soil between 5 and 6 is most suitable for rice germination and seedling growth. At the same time, rice needs a lot of water to grow. After transplanting, the soil must be moist with a shallow water layer, but there must not be too much water, otherwise the rice will rot if it stays in deep water for a long time.

Rice harvest time

The southern region of China has sufficient sunshine and a mild climate, and the rice growing cycle is generally about 3 months. In North China and Northeast China, the four seasons are distinct, and the growing cycle is generally 200-240 days . Early rice generally matures in early to mid-July, mid-season rice can be harvested in mid-to-late September, and late rice needs to wait until early to mid-October to mature and be harvested and put on the market.
