How to grow Chinese evergreen in winter

Maintenance location

The winter temperature in the north and south is different. The Chinese evergreen in the north should be moved indoors for the winter. When the outdoor temperature drops to around 13℃, it should be moved indoors immediately and placed in a bright place indoors. In the southern regions, plants can spend the winter directly outdoors by covering the potted plants with a protective film, but the film should be removed for ventilation every two days when the temperature is higher at noon.

Lighting requirements

The evergreen is afraid of strong sunlight, but this little bit of sunlight in winter is not a problem for it at all. Try to place it in a bright place where it can receive sunlight. Place it in semi-shade outdoors for a period of time every 1 to 2 months, and then move it back indoors at night. This will allow the plant to fully absorb nutrients and resume growth.

Fertilizer and water requirements

Fertilizer and water for Chinese evergreen is a troublesome matter. Do not apply fertilizer randomly, apply concentrated fertilizer, or apply nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers too much. The requirement is "apply light fertilizer frequently, in small amounts and at many times, with complete nutrition." Applying more fertilizer during the growing season can promote its growth, but during the winter dormancy period, less fertilizer should be applied, and fertilization once a month is fine.

Watering is slightly different indoors and outdoors. Outdoors, water once a week, with shorter intervals on sunny days or hot days, longer intervals or no watering at all on rainy days or cold days. When caring for the plant indoors, water it about once every 10 days, and try to water it on a sunny day at noon when the temperature is higher.
