How to propagate Begonia by cuttings

How to propagate Begonia by cuttings

Cutting time

The time for cutting propagation of Begonia at home should be between April and May every year. When the temperature rises to around 20℃ in the spring season, the air humidity is high and the ambient temperature increases. It is easy to manage Begonia, which is more suitable for its rapid rooting and germination.

Cutting medium

The river sand needs to be cleaned, dried, and placed in a basin. At this time, the dried river sand has basically achieved the purpose of disinfection. Putting the dried river sand in the pot is conducive to promoting the healing of the cut surface of the cuttings and is conducive to the warming of the potting soil under the sunlight during the day.

Cutting selection

When choosing cuttings, Begonia should choose strong 1-2 year old branches for cuttings. Each branch has 3-4 nodes. It should be cut into a flat column shape and the bottom into a horseshoe shape. This will increase the contact area between the cuttings and the sand and promote rooting of the plants.

Post-management

Plant the cuttings in pots with a row spacing of 3*4 cm, not too close. Before cutting, prepare a bamboo stick of the same thickness as the cuttings to make a hole in the potting sand, and then insert the branches of the begonia through the hole. No watering is required for about 2 days after insertion to facilitate the healing of the cut surface and prevent rot.

On the 5th day after planting, water until water flows out of the basin. Place the plant with the pot in a cool place and stop watering. After 10 days, 3-4 cm roots will grow. At this time, place the pot in the sun and water it according to the climate. After 6-7 days, it can be potted and planted.
