How to grow lucky bamboo in winter

How to grow lucky bamboo in winter

Winter placement

Do not place lucky bamboo next to a TV or in a place where it is often exposed to air conditioning or electric fans to prevent the tips and edges of the leaves from drying out. It is best to place it in a place with sufficient light.

Winter water changes

Most families grow lucky bamboo in water. If they grow it in soil, there is no problem of changing water.

Generally, after a period of time, many small fine roots will grow, so in winter, try to add water instead of changing water, and add water in time after the water evaporates. When changing water in winter, the water temperature should not be too low, it should be equivalent to room temperature. The water must be clean and fresh. Do not use dirty water, hard water, or oily water, otherwise the roots will easily rot.

Winter growing temperature

Lucky bamboo grows best in temperatures between 16 and 26 degrees Celsius. The plant is prone to die if the temperature is too low. Therefore, the room temperature should be controlled in winter, and the plants should not be placed in cold places such as balconies or windows. Be careful not to let the water or soil in the pots freeze. If necessary, you can take warming measures. If you turn on the air conditioner at home, try to control the temperature between 16~26℃, not too high.

Ensure that lucky bamboo has sufficient light

All plants will carry out photosynthesis, and lucky bamboo is no exception. Although it is a shade-loving plant and is usually kept indoors, it does not require much sunlight, but it cannot completely deny light. If the plant does not receive light for a long time, it will cause poor growth and yellowing of the leaves.

Therefore, try to place the plant in a bright and ventilated place. The sunlight is not strong in winter, so you can let the lucky bamboo receive more scattered light, which will help it grow stronger.

Choose the right watering method for lucky bamboo

The watering method of lucky bamboo also depends on the cultivation method. For hydroponic culture, the water can be changed every 2 weeks or so, and for soil culture, water it once every 20 days or so. The temperature in the north is low in winter, so try not to place the plants outdoors. In addition, the best time to water is after the sun comes out and the temperature is not lower than 10℃. This can ensure that there is no ice after watering and avoid frostbite on the plants.

Winter fertilization method

April to October is the growing season for lucky bamboo, but it also needs nutrients in winter to accumulate nutrients for growth in the spring of next year. Applying a small amount of compound fertilizer at the right time in winter can make the leaves green and the branches thick and strong. If no fertilizer is applied for a long time, the plant will grow weak and the leaves will become dull and yellow. But do not apply too much fertilizer to avoid burning the roots.
