Watering and fertilizing methods for Anthurium

Watering and fertilizing methods for Anthurium

Watering method

Seedling stage

Anthurium seedlings have weak root systems, are shallow in the soil, have poor ability to absorb water, and are not drought-tolerant. Therefore, after planting, make sure the soil is moist and spray water 2 to 3 times a day to ensure the environmental humidity and promote the growth of new roots.

The amount of watering depends on the size of the plant. Larger plants grow faster and require more water, so the water supply must be sufficient. Water every 2 to 3 days depending on the dryness of the soil.

Growth period

Anthurium needs more water to keep its leaves green during its growing season. When watering, pay attention to alternating between dry and wet periods, and never water the plant when it is severely short of water, so as not to affect its growth and development. Under normal circumstances, water the plants once a week and sprinkle water on the leaves at noon to reduce temperature and increase humidity. In cold seasons, watering should be done between 9 am and 4 pm to avoid frostbite of the roots.

Flowering period

During the flowering period, watering should be reduced appropriately and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied to promote flowering. However, in order to prolong the flowering period, a high air humidity must be maintained, especially in hot seasons. Windows can be opened for ventilation and spray frequently to increase the relative humidity in the room.

Be careful not to water or spray water on the leaves at noon to avoid high temperature burns on the leaves, resulting in scorched leaves, deformed flower buds, and fading. In addition, do not spray the leaves in the evening to ensure that there are no water droplets on the plants at night.

Fertilization method

cycle

When fertilizing Anthurium, you should follow the principle of regular and quantitative fertilization. In autumn, the cycle is generally 4 or 5 days. If there is high temperature weather, fertilizer should be applied depending on the dryness and wetness of the substrate in the pot. In summer, fertilizer and water can be applied once every 3 or 4 days, and clean water can be applied more often when the temperature is high. In winter, fertilizer and water are generally applied once every 6 to 8 days.

time

The time for fertilization varies according to the climate and environment. Generally, it is applied between 8 am and 5 pm; in winter or early spring, it is applied between 9 am and 4 pm.

Cleaning leaves

Strictly control the concentration of fertilizer each time, preferring low to high. In addition, the leaves need to be cleaned 2 hours after the application of liquid fertilizer to rinse off the remaining fertilizer on the leaves, keep the leaves clean, and avoid dust contamination and algae growth that affect the ornamental effect of the leaves.
