Twelve-month maintenance tips for asparagus fern

Asparagus fern is an evergreen foliage plant. The plant is lush and verdant, like overlapping green clouds, quiet and elegant. The maintenance of asparagus fern plays a great role in keeping the plant upright and green. my country has four distinct seasons, and the climate in different months varies greatly. The cultivation plan for asparagus fern should be adjusted according to the actual climate conditions. The maintenance of asparagus fern in the twelve months is different, and is summarized as follows for reference by asparagus fern enthusiasts:

January

In winter, it can be placed in the sun indoors, and the temperature should be controlled at 10-15℃, and the minimum should not be lower than 5℃.

February

Be sure to keep the soil in the pot moist and prepare for repotting.

March

The plant can be repotted in March. When repotting, be careful not to damage the roots too much. Remove old roots, cut off dead branches and yellow leaves, and shape the plant appropriately, while also replacing the soil with new one. Propagation by division can be carried out in conjunction with repotting. Generally, 2-3 year old plants can be divided, and the plant clusters can be broken up and potted separately. When the plant starts to sprout branches in the third year, you can move to a larger pot and install a support for the stems and vines to climb, otherwise they will become entangled and unable to grow.

April

When the fruits are ripe, they can be sown and propagated immediately after being picked. Soak the seeds in water for a day and night before sowing, and do not cover them with too thick soil. After sowing, cover the pot with glass and keep the room temperature at around 20℃. They will germinate in about 20 days. When the seedlings are 5 cm tall, move them into small pots. The potting soil can be made by mixing 5 parts of leaf mold, 1 part of rice husk ash and 1 part of sand. Plants that have overwintered indoors can be moved outdoors.

May

Prune the old plants appropriately so that new branches and leaves grow from the base of the leaves above.

Water in time, pay attention to watering when the soil is dry and keep the soil moist. Increase indirect light exposure appropriately and avoid exposure to the sun. Apply fertilizer once every 2-3 weeks. Prevent pests from occurring.

June

Increase watering. Weed in time, apply fertilizer appropriately, and control fertilization after the plants have taken shape.

Pay attention to shade. Asparagus fern prefers semi-shade. Direct sunlight in summer can easily cause the branches and leaves to turn yellow and appear scorched, so a shade net should be added.

July

Water it every day and spray water on the leaves and around the pot from time to time. Keep the soil moist during the growing period and avoid dryness, otherwise the cloud-shaped leaves will soon turn yellow and fall off.

Place asparagus fern in a well-ventilated place and provide shade. After asparagus fern blooms, control watering.

August

Observe the growth of asparagus fern regularly, and do a good job of weeding, watering, shading, and pest and disease control.

September

Reduce watering and increase indirect light to promote plant growth.

October

When the weather gets cold, you can move it indoors and place it in the sun.

November

Control watering and keep the soil in the pot moist.

December

In winter, pay attention to keeping warm and moisturizing, and get more sunlight.
