Longan Grafting Method

Longan Grafting Method

Longan grafting can prompt longan to enter the fruiting period ahead of schedule. As long as the external conditions are suitable, it can bloom and bear fruit. Grafting longan can not only breed more high-quality seedlings faster, but also enhance longan's ability to adapt to the environment, concentrating the advantages of scion and rootstock into one.

Longan grafting time

Longan is usually grafted in March-April in spring or September-October in autumn. The best time for grafting is in March because when the temperature is above 15 degrees, the survival rate of grafted longan is higher, the growth rate is faster, and the grafted interface is easy to heal.

Longan Grafting Technology

1. Single bud grafting

Cut the top of the rootstock when it is 17 cm above the ground, and cut straight down 1.5 cm on the inner side of the outer edge cortex. Cut the scion into a single bud with one side longer and the other side shorter. Then insert the long cut surface inward into the rootstock, and then wrap it completely. Check whether it has survived 2-3 weeks after grafting.

2. Tongue bonding

Cut the top of the rootstock when it is 45 cm above the ground, flatten the cut, then cut vertically 3 cm deep, and then cut a knife from the bottom of the rootstock. The thickness of the scion should be the same as that of the rootstock, 7 cm long, and then cut into an inclined surface in the opposite direction. Then insert the scion and the rootstock so that the two are tightly embedded, and finally wrap them completely with plastic film.
