How to grow jasmine

Environmental requirements

Acidic soil

The soil for forsythia requires loose, fertile and well-drained soil. And make sure the soil is acidic, as alkaline soil will cause poor growth.

Water at the right time

Forsythia likes a humid environment. Water it frequently before and after flowering to keep the soil moist. Generally, water it 1 to 3 times. Water more before the rainy season, and try not to water on cloudy and rainy days. Do not fertilize during the growing season, and water immediately after fertilizing. Do not water after the beginning of autumn to prevent the branches from growing too tall and unable to safely survive the winter.

illumination

Around the Spring Festival, the forsythia should be moved indoors for maintenance. Keep the room temperature around 15℃ and flowers will be visible after 15 days.

When the summer sun is scorching and the temperature is high, move the forsythia pot to a semi-shaded place, which is conducive to the growth of the forsythia.

Fertilization

When planting in pots, place a few pieces of hoof slices in the pot as base fertilizer. Or add a small amount of organic fertilizer when preparing flower soil.

During the growing season of Forsythia, apply decomposed thin liquid fertilizer 1 to 2 times a month.

July to August is the flower bud differentiation period of Forsythia jasmine. More phosphorus fertilizer should be applied to promote the differentiation of flower buds.

In the early stage of flowering, applying a well-rotted organic liquid fertilizer can ensure the bright colors of the forsythia and prolong the flowering period.

prune

Forsythia has strong vitality and needs to be pinched frequently during its growth to cut off the new branches at the top and trim the overly long branches to maintain a good tree shape. Usually each branch retains 2 to 3 small buds. The main branches can retain a few more buds.

Potted Planting Notes

If you want the forsythia to bloom during the Spring Festival, you can move the plant to an environment of 12 to 16 degrees Celsius 2 to 3 weeks before the Spring Festival, depending on the size of the buds, water it once every three days, spray the branches and leaves, and expose it to the sun.

Newly planted forsythia should be watered thoroughly, placed in a cool place for 10 days, then placed in semi-shade and semi-sun for a week, and gradually moved to a sunny place for maintenance.

In winter, in the south, potted plants can be buried in the soil in a sunny place where the wind is sheltered from the winter, while in the north, they need to be moved indoors for maintenance, and the temperature should be controlled above 5℃.
