Plants that can repel mosquitoes in summer

Plants that can repel mosquitoes in summer

1. Mosquito repellent grass

Mosquito repellent grass, also known as mosquito-repellent herb, emits a lemon scent all year round. It not only has a mosquito repellent effect, but also can purify the air. The higher the temperature, the stronger the fragrance and the better the mosquito repellent effect. It can be cultivated as a bonsai and generally grows to maturity within half a year. It has a long survival period and can survive for more than 10 years with proper maintenance.

2. Mint

Mint has a special fragrant smell that makes mosquitoes dizzy. Moreover, mint can not only repel mosquitoes, but also directly apply mint leaves in water to the affected area after mosquito bites, which can also have an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effect.

3. Pyrethrum

Pyrethrum is a good material for potted plants and cut flowers, and is also a well-known medicinal plant. The flowers and leaves are dried and made into powder or mosquito coils to eliminate pests and deodorize. Mosquitoes will also run away when they smell the scent of pyrethrum.

4. Lavender

Lavender has the effect of repelling mosquitoes and calming the nerves. At home, you can plant it in a pot for viewing, and it also has a good insect repellent effect. It is recommended to place it in the bedroom. The light fragrance can repel insects and has a calming effect.

5. Osmanthus fragrans

Sweet olive is an evergreen shrub with an umbel-like shape, small shiny leaves, dense white flowers, and red berries after flowering, adding to its beauty. When you touch its leaves, they emit a strong sweet fragrance, which is very effective in repelling mosquitoes.

6. Jasmine

Jasmine flowers have a strong fragrance. Placing them indoors in the summer can kill tuberculosis, dysentery, and diphtheria bacteria, and keep mosquitoes away. Some electric mosquito repellent tablets on the market use the scent of jasmine.

7. Geranium

Geraniums have clusters of plump, ball-shaped flowers, and are suitable for growing anywhere. In hot seasons, if placed in a sparsely shaded environment, geraniums will emit a unique smell, and mosquitoes and flies will smell it and run away.

8. Marigold

The flowers and leaves of marigold have a bad smell, so it is also called "stinking marigold". Mosquitoes dare not approach it when they smell the odor, and it has obvious natural insect repellent effect.

9. Carnivorous Plant

Carnivorous plant is a herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family. It can grow very tall and has small yellow flowers. One plant may have hundreds of flower heads. Each flower head has mucus on the outside, just like five outstretched little fingers, which is very interesting. As long as small mosquitoes and insects land on it, they will be stuck. Then, the insect corpses will be slowly digested by it as nutrients for growth. If dust falls on it, it will be digested and disappear without a trace after a few days. It can be placed in a potted plant at home to catch mosquitoes and absorb dust.

10. Pitcher Plant

Nepenthes is a typical carnivorous plant with peculiar leaves and an oblong "insect-catching bottle" hanging on the top. The bottle has a lid that can be opened and closed to catch mosquitoes alive.
