Carrot , as a well-known root vegetable , is known as "little ginseng" for its rich nutritional value and health benefits. In recent years, as people pay more attention to healthy eating, the planting area of carrots has shown an upward trend. So how do you grow carrots? 1. Site selection Choose neutral or slightly acidic sandy loam or loam that is pollution-free, fertile, well-drained, and has a deep soil layer. The planting plot needs to be plowed 30cm deep to ensure that the soil is raked flat and soft. 2. Tillage and fertilization The tillage depth should be controlled at 25-30 cm. Deep tillage should be carried out before winter, and tillage should be carried out again before sowing and base fertilizer should be applied. The base fertilizer includes decomposed farmyard manure, potassium sulfate compound fertilizer , calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer and potassium sulfate, which are evenly mixed into the soil layer 6 cm deep. The bed surface is shaped into a turtleback shape with a width of 110-130 cm and a height of 30 cm. 3. Weeding Thin out the carrots when they are in the 4-5 leaf stage and maintain an appropriate density. For monocotyledonous weeds, chemical herbicides can be used for spraying. 4. Fertilizer and water management Remove the covering after the seedlings emerge. When the temperature is high and the weather is dry, water or irrigate in the early morning or evening to keep the soil moist. During the 7-8 leaf stage, apply potassium sulfate compound fertilizer and potassium sulfate in combination with watering. 5. Soil cultivation To ensure the appearance quality of carrots, row sowing is used and soil is added in time to prevent the fleshy roots from exposing the soil surface. 6. Harvest When the heart leaves of the plant turn yellow-green and the outer leaves turn yellow, it means the carrots are ripe. When harvesting, the green tops are cut off, the soil is removed, and the carrots without defects and of appropriate weight are selected and bagged. 7. Storage Carrots need to be stored properly to extend their shelf life. Storage methods include ditch storage, cellar storage or kiln storage, maintaining the temperature in the cellar at 1-3°C and the humidity at 95% to ensure the quality of the carrots. The above is an introduction to the key points of carrot cultivation techniques. Carrots are rich in nutritional value and have good market prospects.
