Cultivation methods and precautions of Rieger Begonia in winter

Cultivation methods and precautions of Rieger Begonia in winter

1. Adequate light

The growth and flowering of Begonia cannot be separated from sufficient light. The sunlight in winter is relatively mild and not particularly strong, so the light exposure time can be increased, and even full-day sunlight can be achieved. Through the exposure to light, not only can nutrients be synthesized to promote growth, but the temperature of the plant itself can also be increased.

2. Raise the temperature

The most suitable temperature for the growth of Begonia is around 18-22℃, which is far below the temperature in winter, so we should take warming measures to increase the temperature in the growing environment. It is best to move it indoors for the winter. The minimum temperature should not be lower than 5℃, and it is best to keep it above 10℃.

3. Control watering

The growth is very slow in winter, so watering needs to be controlled and not in large quantities. You can judge whether to water by the condition of the soil in the pot. Wait until the soil is dry before watering. The amount of water should not be too much. If the soil is too wet, it will breed bacteria.

4. Suspend fertilization

Before winter, you can apply organic fertilizer to the plants to provide nutrients, enhance the plants' disease resistance and improve their resistance. You can stop fertilizing in winter. If the indoor temperature is suitable, you can also apply some fertilizer.

5. Notes

Although the Begonia should be moved indoors for the winter, it should not be placed in front of heating equipment, and windows should be opened appropriately at noon to allow for fresh air.
