Cultivation methods and precautions of lotus bud

Cultivation methods and precautions of lotus bud

1. Soil

To grow lotus flowers, you need loose, breathable, water-permeable, and organic-rich sandy loam. A small amount of bone meal can be added as base fertilizer. The soil should be disinfected with high temperature before use.

2. Temperature

The suitable temperature for the growth of purse flowers is around 15℃. When the temperature is higher than 20℃, it will affect its growth, bud formation and flowering. If the temperature can be lowered to around 10℃ during flowering, the flowering period can be extended, but the night temperature during the growing season and overwintering must not be lower than 10℃.

3. Lighting

It likes light and avoids direct sunlight. When the light is too strong at noon, appropriate shade should be provided and good ventilation should be maintained, otherwise it will easily cause damping-off disease. Increasing the light hours can advance flowering. For example, if you increase the light by 3 hours a day starting in November, it will bloom at the end of January of the following year. For greenhouse cultivation, pay attention to 30% shade before October, no shade from October to March of the following year, and after March, shade of about 50% is required during the flowering period.

4. Water

Drought will cause poor growth of the plant, so attention must be paid to drainage. Excessive moisture can easily cause root rot. When watering, do not contaminate the leaves because they are hairy and easily rot. Watering is required when the soil is dry and when it is wet. You can spray the flower pots frequently to keep the air humidity above 80%. However, be careful not to spray water on the flowers during the flowering period to avoid affecting fruit setting.
