How to grow rutabaga

How to grow rutabaga

1. Soil:

Rutabaga has a strong ability to absorb fertilizer, likes to grow in moist sandy loam, and can adapt to acidic soil.

2. Fertilization:

Turnips have a high demand for fertilizer. When cultivating, compound fertilizer is used as base fertilizer, and organic fertilizer needs to be applied at the same time. Top dressing is required 2-3 times during the growing period.

3. Watering:

Turnips do not have a strong demand for water during the seedling stage, so just water them at the right time. In the later stages of growth, you should increase the frequency of watering and combine topdressing with fertilizer to supply sufficient water.

4. Temperature:

Cabbage has a strong ability to adapt to temperature and can withstand temperatures as low as -2°C. The seeds can germinate at 2-3°C and the most suitable growth temperature is 13-18°C.

5. Notes:

1. Diseases:

The most common is viral disease, which can cause plant growth difficulties, deformities, and in severe cases, plant death. The crops can be sown later so that the sensitive period of disease can be postponed to the cool season. If diseased plants are found in the field, they should be removed in time to reduce the spread of pathogens. At the same time, keep the ground moist, lower the ground temperature and reduce the incidence of disease.

2. Pests:

The main insect pests are aphids, whiteflies, etc. Insect repellents such as trichlorfon, aphid-repellent fog and Tianda high-efficiency chlorflucythrinate can be used for continuous spraying to eliminate pests and prevent them from harming crops.
