How to grow desert roses so they bloom

How to grow desert roses so they bloom

1. Lighting

It is a sun-loving plant and needs eight hours of natural light a day to grow healthily, so it is best to grow it in a sunny place such as a balcony or outdoors to ensure the amount of light it needs. The daylight is relatively short in winter, but you should still try to give the plants light. The winter sunlight is not strong, so you can place them on the balcony to receive sunlight throughout the day.

2. Fertilization

The plants do not need to be fertilized under normal circumstances, but the exception is during the growing and flowering periods, because the nutrient consumption is high at this time, and it is difficult to meet its needs relying solely on soil nutrition. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that fertilizer is applied twice a month. However, due to the higher nutrient requirements during these two special periods, compound fertilizers need to be added, such as 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate. This fertilizer has diversified nutrients and can meet the multi-faceted needs of desert roses.

3. Watering

Desert rose is a drought-tolerant plant. Many people believe that drought-tolerant plants do not need watering. In fact, this statement is wrong. Drought-tolerant plants also need watering. The watering time for Desert Rose is not fixed, but one thing you need to pay attention to is to observe the water shortage of the soil before each watering. The plant can only be watered when the soil is completely dry. Moreover, the amount of watering should not be too much. There must never be water accumulation in the pot. Watering should be done until the soil feels wet and the soil does not clump. Water accumulation will cause its roots to rot, which is difficult to recover from.
