Principles of Planting Orchids with Hard Planting Materials

Principles of Planting Orchids with Hard Planting Materials

1. The principle of hard planting material

Hard planting material for growing orchids is a mixture of volcanic rocks, granite, coconut shells, charcoal particles, etc. It has good air permeability and is very suitable for planting in places with high rainfall. Using hard planting material for planting can allow the plant to absorb water more evenly and the root system will be stronger. However, the water retention capacity of hard planting materials is relatively weak, and it needs to be watered more often to meet its water needs.

2. Hard Planting Material Maintenance

1. Light: When using hard planting materials to grow orchids, they need to be exposed to the sun as much as possible. If they are grown in a cool place, they will not receive sunlight for a long time, which will be detrimental to their growth.

2. Ventilation: Because the water retention capacity of the planting material is poor, many flower lovers will water it frequently. Sometimes, the plant will become stuffy and humid because of poor control of the watering frequency. Therefore, it is necessary to ventilate the plant more frequently during maintenance and open windows more often when growing it indoors, so as to avoid the problem of roots being suffocated.

3. Watering: Although you need to water it more when growing it in hard planting materials, you should not water it too frequently or excessively. If the weather is good, you can water the plants every day, but if the weather is bad, you should delay watering for a few days to prevent excess moisture from forming in the substrate.
