How to grow azaleas and why the leaves turn black

How to grow azaleas and why the leaves turn black

1. How to maintain

1. Potting soil: If you want to grow azalea better, you need to use acidic soil with good air permeability. If alkaline soil is used for cultivation, it will be harmful to its growth and flowering. The flowerpot should also be larger, and the material should preferably be a clay pot or a ceramic pot.

2. Watering: This plant is very afraid of drought and waterlogging. The soil should be kept moist during maintenance, but no water accumulation should occur. In addition to normal watering in summer, you also need to spray water on the leaves to keep them moisturized. It is better to use rainwater when watering, but you can also use tap water that has been left for a day or two.

3. Sunlight: During the growth period, it should be placed in a sunny place and cannot be exposed to strong sunlight. If it is exposed to excessive sunlight, the leaves will be burned. In summer, shade should be provided and good ventilation should be ensured.

4. Fertilization: Apply thin fertilizer frequently to azaleas, and avoid concentrated fertilizer. During the growing season, apply thin fertilizer once every 10 days. It does not need to be fertilized in winter, but it is necessary to apply appropriate fertilizer in January, which is very beneficial for its flowering in spring.

2. Reasons for leaves turning black

During the normal maintenance of azaleas, long-term lack of water or excessive watering will cause the leaves to turn black. Just water them correctly and keep the soil moist. This situation can also occur if you apply too much fertilizer, so apply fertilizer in small amounts. Also, if the plant is contaminated by diseases, the leaves may easily turn black, so you need to use pesticides to prevent and control it as soon as possible.
