Cultivation method of Ephedra sinica

Cultivation method of Ephedra sinica

1. Soil

Ephedra has strong adaptability and is not very demanding on soil. It can grow well in sandy loam and sandy soil. Do not plant in clay soils that retain water, as root rot may occur. When planting it, the most suitable soil pH value is around 8.

2. Temperature

Ephedra sinica is suitable for planting in northern regions, and the optimum temperature is 15-22℃. It is very cold-resistant and can spend the winter outdoors in most northern regions.

3. Watering

In the early stage when seedlings have not yet emerged, water frequently and in small amounts to keep the soil moist to facilitate seedling removal. The seedling stage is about 7-15 days. During this period, there should be no accumulation of water in the soil and no frequent irrigation or watering. After it grows, water it whenever it is dry.

4. Fertilization

When it grows to about 5 nodes, add some urea to promote its growth. After mid-August, a small amount of phosphorus fertilizer can be applied to promote lignification and ensure the safe wintering of seedlings.

5. Pest and disease control

During the seedling stage of Ephedra sinica, it is necessary to prevent and control mole crickets. The method is to fry wheat bran, mix it with methyl parathion, and sprinkle it around the planting site. There is no need for prevention and treatment when raising it at home. Aphid infestation may also occur, usually in mid-July. Use 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate diluted 300 times and spray it, the effect is obvious.
