How to propagate large-flowered geraniums by cuttings: When to propagate, and a diagram of the method

1. How to take cuttings

The first step is to choose cuttings about 10 cm in length. The top part is the most suitable as it grows quickly.

The second step is to let the incision dry for a few days after cutting the cuttings. After a thin film is formed, place them in a sand bed, mud, or perlite. You can also use fine yellow sand, with slightly rough sand and gravel underneath to facilitate water conduction, and fine sand and gravel on top to facilitate water storage.

The third step is to place it in a semi-shaded place after insertion and maintain the indoor temperature at 13-18℃. Generally, it can be placed in a pot after taking root after 14-21 days. At this time, the root length is about 3-4 cm.

The fourth step is to water the plants after they are soaked for the first time. Just spray water appropriately. Spray an appropriate amount of water every day for the first three days after the plug is inserted. Then spray every other day on cloudy days and every day on sunny days. It should be noted that in the later stage, the plants should be placed under direct sunlight. Remember to spray water frequently to wet the surface of the plants.

Note: Do not damage the epidermis of the cuttings, otherwise it will easily turn black and necrotize. If conditions permit, you can soak the roots of the cuttings in 0.01% indolebutyric acid for 1-2 seconds during the process. The purpose of this is to increase the survival rate. Generally, it will bloom after 6 months of cultivation.

2. Cutting time

Except for June and July when the patient is in a sleeping state, it can be carried out at other times. Best in spring and autumn. The climate is hot in summer, and cuttings are prone to necrosis and rot.
