How many years does Clivia bloom?

How many years does Clivia bloom?

1. How many years does it take to bloom?

Clivia usually blooms when it grows 12 leaves, and this process takes 2 years. However, if the environment is not suitable or the care is not good, the plant may need to grow 14 leaves before it blooms. In addition, different varieties require different amounts of time. The fastest one is the exotic Clivia, whose seeds only take 5 months to mature. The slowest one is the Clivia miniata, which takes 8-10 years from sowing to flowering.

2. Flowering time

The flowering period of Clivia is generally from June to July in summer. If it is well cared for, it is possible for the plant to bloom all year round. Its flowers emerge from the pedicel, are funnel-shaped, and are yellow, orange or orange-red in color. Several flowers form an umbel.

3. How to promote flowering

1. Control the temperature: Clivia needs to grow flower stems to bloom. Too high or too low temperature will cause the flower stems to be pinched, so the temperature must be controlled well, preferably at around 20℃, and the temperature difference between day and night should be between 8-10℃.

2. Increase light: Although Clivia is a short-day plant, it does not mean that it cannot withstand light. Appropriate light is helpful for the plant to bloom. The lighting time should not exceed 8 hours. At the same time, avoid strong light and it is better to receive scattered light.

3. Proper watering: Clivia is different from other flowers. Its water requirement will increase during the flowering period. If there is not enough water, it will affect flowering. In addition to daily watering, you can also spray water appropriately to increase the air humidity.

4. Supplement fertilizer: Timely supplement of fertilizer is also beneficial to the flowering of Clivia. Supplementing phosphorus and potassium fertilizers during the flowering period can promote flowering. It is generally used once every 15-20 days, and the amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be controlled.
