What fertilizer should be used for ginger topdressing?

Ginger requires different fertilizers in different growth stages. The first application is fertilizer for seedling growth, the second application is fertilizer for turning roots, and the third application is fertilizer for ginger growth.

Generally, compound fertilizer is used for topdressing ginger. Nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer are the most needed during the entire growth period, and trace elements such as zinc, boron, and sulfur are more needed, so compound fertilizer should be used.

Ginger topdressing method

The first top dressing of ginger can be done together with watering. The second and third top dressings require digging a trench 15 cm close to the base of the plant, sprinkling the fertilizer into the trench, mixing it thoroughly with the soil, then covering it with soil and finally watering it thoroughly.

Fertilize ginger according to its fertilizer requirements. It likes fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is 5:1:8. It can be seen that ginger needs more nitrogen and potassium fertilizers throughout the growth period, and more trace elements such as zinc, boron and sulfur.

Ginger topdressing dosage

The first time nitrogen fertilizer is applied to ginger, 15-20 kg of ammonium sulfate can be applied per mu. The second time, cake fertilizer and quick-acting chemical fertilizer can be used, 60 to 70 kg of decomposed cake fertilizer, 1,000 kg of decomposed chicken manure, 55 kg of compound fertilizer or 50 kg of potassium sulfate, 30 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 20 kg of urea per mu. The third time is quick-acting chemical fertilizer.

Precautions for ginger topdressing

It is best to apply top dressing to ginger in the morning and afternoon on sunny days. These two time periods can reduce leaf evaporation and increase absorption. If there is a lot of hot weather and you are in a hurry to fertilize, you can add silicone enhancer (8 seconds) to the diluted molar foliar fertilizer to increase the adhesion of the foliar fertilizer on the leaves and speed up absorption. Of course, rainy weather is also acceptable.
