1. Family

Sweet Osmanthus fragrans, also known as Thousand-Li Osmanthus fragrans, is a small tree belonging to the Rutaceae family and the genus Murraya. It is widely distributed in my country, mainly concentrated in the southern regions, such as Hunan, Guangxi, Hainan, Guizhou, Taiwan, Fujian, Guangdong, etc.

2. Features

The height of the sweet olive is relatively high, up to about 12 meters. The color of the trunk is grayish white and the surface is relatively shiny. The leaflets are about 3-9 cm long and 1.5-4 cm wide. The top part is relatively narrow and dark green in color, with wavy edges. The flowering period is from April to September. The inflorescences are axillary and terminal. The petals are white and have a strong fragrance that can spread far away. It can also bear fruit, which is long and narrow oval in shape and ranges from orange to scarlet in color.

3. Habits

Osmanthus fragrans is a sun-loving plant that likes sunlight to grow, so it should be placed in a place with good light when caring for it. It also likes a warm climate, and the most suitable temperature for its growth is around 20℃-32℃. It cannot withstand cold climates, and when the temperature drops in winter, it needs to be moved indoors for maintenance. It may be frozen to death if the temperature is below 0℃.
