Should Calla Lily be dug out after it goes dormant? Does it have to be refrigerated after summer dormancy?

1. Calla lilies need to be dug out after they go dormant

The blooming period of Calla Lily is generally around February and March every year. After blooming, it will slowly become withered and the leaves will gradually wither. By the time summer comes, the leaves of the calla lily will almost all fall off, leaving only the bulb.

At this time, you need to reduce watering and wait until the soil in the pot is dry before digging out the bulbs. If the bulbs are not taken out and stored at a suitable temperature, they will find it difficult to adapt to the high temperature environment outside and will age and be damaged, making it difficult for them to bloom again. Therefore, after Calla lily goes dormant, its bulbs must be dug out, especially those in pots. The bulbs must be rinsed clean, soaked in carbendazim, etc., and then placed in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Then wrap it with softer paper, put it in a cardboard box, and place it in the refrigerator.

2. Calla lilies must be refrigerated after summer dormancy

Calla lily likes warmth and is suitable for growing in a warm environment, but is not resistant to high temperatures. After its flowering period, its branches and leaves gradually wither, the plant becomes more fragile and more sensitive to external temperature. Therefore, when the hot summer season comes, Calla Lily will become even more unbearable. If they are not refrigerated, the bulbs will have a hard time surviving the high temperatures that are common in the summer.

Therefore, after Calla Lily goes dormant in summer, it needs to be stored well and the temperature in the refrigerator should be controlled between five and seven degrees. In this way, when the bulbs are taken out and planted again two months later, they can germinate and grow smoothly and bloom beautiful flowers.
