Difference between snapdragon and lupine

Difference between snapdragon and lupine

1. Different leaves

The leaves of snapdragon are relatively few in number and are oblong-lanceolate in shape, about 2-6 cm long, with entire edges. Although they spread outward, they are not very wide.

The leaves of lupine are palmately compound leaves, which spread outward like the palm of a hand, with a large expansion range and up to about 1 cm in length.

2. Different flowers

The inflorescence of snapdragon is shorter. The upper lip of the flower is upright with two lobes, and the lower lip has three lobes. When it blooms, it looks like little goldfish, which is where the name comes from. The flowers are not arranged very neatly and look rather dense and messy.

The inflorescence of lupine is relatively long, and is particularly eye-catching when it blooms. The flowers seem to be many unopened buds gathered together, arranged very neatly, and look quite comfortable.

3. Different fruits

The fruit of snapdragon is an oval capsule, about 15 mm long, with the base extending forward.

The fruit of lupine is an oblong linear pod, which is larger in shape, about 2.5-5cm in length and about 0.8-1.2cm in width.
