Cabbage is a raw herb, also known as cabbage, big meat mustard and covered mustard. The crisp and tender leaf heads and leaves are generally edible. It is a specialty vegetable in China. Like ordinary mustard greens, it is slightly sweet and cool, rich in nutrients and contains many kinds of vitamins. So when should we sow mustard greens? Let’s take a look below. 1. When should cabbage be sown? The sowing time of cabbage is mainly concentrated from July to August. Specifically, cabbage is generally best sown from July 20 to the end of July, while in the southern regions, the sowing time can be slightly advanced to late August to September. In northern regions, due to the colder climate, the sowing time needs to be advanced by one month, around July. 2. How to plant mustard greens 1. The seeds of cabbage mustard need to be germinated before sowing. Because the seeds are in a dormant state, the seeds must be dried and germinated in a low temperature environment of 3 to 4 degrees. Generally, it takes about 2 to 3 days for sowing. 2. Cabbage mustard is usually planted by broadcasting. The seeds should be sprayed evenly and covered with soil and water after sowing, which will help the seeds absorb moisture and increase the germination speed. When the temperature is relatively high, you can use straw to cover the slopes to keep them moisturized. 3. The growing temperature of cabbage is between 15 and 25 degrees, not higher than 30 degrees. Otherwise the quality will be affected, and in serious cases they may be killed by the sun. 4. Cabbage likes moisture. If there is no rainfall after planting, it needs to be watered twice a day to ensure its germination rate. 5. Cabbage can be sown directly or transplanted into seedlings. If transplanted, the seedlings can be transplanted when they are about 20 to 25 days old. I usually sow the seeds myself, so the work is easier. Use the hole sowing method, put two or three seeds in each hole, with a plant spacing of about 40 cm and a row spacing of about 50 cm. 6. Spread base fertilizer before sowing. The base fertilizer is fermented goat milk powder matrix fertilizer , sometimes sesame oil residue, which is a fertilizer. After mustard enters the heart-covering stage, it will use a large amount of elements to dissolve in water. Brassica juncea has few diseases and pests and is relatively easy to manage. 7. Harvesting: In the north, cabbage must be harvested before winter. In the south, if frost occurs, cover it with hay and it should be able to survive the winter. 8. Water evenly: Water in time after the seedlings are finished. The specific number of days between plantings depends on the season, growth pattern and soil moisture. Always keep the soil moist and do not let it become too dry. In addition, floods cannot overflow. Because the roots are too weak, the soil oxygen content is too low after flooding, which affects the root's absorption of nutrients. It is better to water frequently. In spring and autumn, water is generally applied once every 7 days, with 525 to 600 cubic meters of water per hectare being appropriate. That’s it |
