Cultivation methods and precautions of Michelia odorata

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: The temperature suitable for its development is between five and fifteen degrees. If the temperature is lower than five degrees, the growth of the plant will be affected, its roots' ability to absorb nutrients will be weakened, and the branches and leaves of the plant will slowly wither. The maximum temperature for maintenance should not exceed fifteen degrees. If it exceeds fifteen degrees, the plant will stop growing, which is not conducive to its growth in the next year.

2. Watering: It likes moisture, and the soil should be kept moist for a long time, but there should be no stagnant water in the soil. Its roots are mostly fleshy. If there is water accumulation in the soil, it will easily cause the roots of the plant to rot, so good drainage should be done during the rainy season. During the growing and flowering periods, the demand for water is relatively high and watering is required every day. In autumn and winter, because the daylight hours are relatively short and water consumption is reduced, watering needs to be controlled. Watering two to three times a week is sufficient.

3. Fertilization: It likes fertilizer. Generally, during the growth period, it needs to be fertilized once every half a month. Fertilization should be stopped during the flowering period in order to promote the development of flower buds. If you find that the color of the plant's leaves is not bright, you can use alum fertilizer water once.

4. Light: It cannot tolerate direct sunlight. When it is exposed to sunlight, it needs 30% shade to prevent the leaves from being damaged by the sun.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: It can be propagated by cuttings. This method is suitable for plants that need to reproduce more in a short period of time, but its disadvantage is that it grows relatively slowly. The time for cuttings should be chosen in spring and summer when the climate is relatively stable. Select one-year-old branches, cut them into branches about ten centimeters long, and then insert them into a seedbed with good drainage. Sprinkle water mist once a day and cultivate them in a cool place.

2. Pruning: It is not suitable for large-scale pruning. Normally, you need to cut off the diseased and weak branches, and before new buds appear in spring, just cut off some old leaves appropriately.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Yellowing of leaves: Yellowing of leaves may be caused by excessive light, and it needs to be kept in a shaded place.

2. Diseases: It is commonly infected with leaf blight, anthracnose, etc. When the disease occurs, the diseased leaves need to be cut off and destroyed as soon as possible, and then sprayed with chlorothalonil for disinfection.

IV. Other issues

1. Function: It is a very good wood. In addition, its flowers can also be used to make essential oils.

2. Toxicity: It is non-toxic.
