How to manage plums so that they are big and sweet (what methods can be used to increase the size and sweetness of plums)

Is there any management method to make plums sweet?

First of all, in terms of fertilization , plum is a crop that requires relatively large amounts of fertilizer. During its growth process, not only base fertilizer should be applied, but also multiple topdressings should be applied. Different fertilization plans should be adopted at different stages.

Among them, top dressing before and after the fruit swelling period is the most important. So which times of fertilization will affect the fruit setting and quality of plums?

①Base fertilizer

Applying basal fertilizer to plum trees in autumn can restore tree vigor, improve soil, enhance root development, promote flower bud differentiation, and also avoid the situation of "good years and bad years" in plums.

The base fertilizer for plums generally consists of organic fertilizer and microbial agents, which can provide long-term and continuous nutrient supply to the trees.

② Topdressing during flowering period

Plum trees need to be top-dressed before and after flowering. Generally, you can choose to apply high-nitrogen fertilizer about 10 days before budding before flowering.

After flowering, young fruits and new shoots enter their growth peak at the same time. To avoid competition for fertilizer, balanced water-soluble fertilizers should be applied in time to reduce physiological fruit drop, increase fruit set rate, and promote the simultaneous growth of young fruits and new shoots.

③ Topdressing during fruit expansion period

After the plum tree flowers fall and before the fruit enters the expansion period, it is necessary to apply balanced water-soluble fertilizer to promote nutrient accumulation in the tree. In the later stage of fruit growth, the main fertilizers are phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and medium and trace elements can also be sprayed.

In addition to fertilizing, if you want to have a good harvest of plum trees, and make them big and sweet, you also need to pay attention to pollination and regulating tree vigor .

Pollination can be done by bee pollination or artificial pollination. Especially for varieties with low self-fertility rate or small amount of pollen, pollination must be done well.

For trees with too vigorous growth, it is necessary to promptly remove buds and prune upright branches, and to open the branch angles in time. You can also apply 3-5g of 15% paclobutrazol per plant in autumn or spring, or spray 150-200 times paclobutrazol or PBO after the flowers fall.

For trees that are too weak, base fertilizer should be applied after fruit harvesting, and top dressing and spraying fertilizer should be applied in time during the growing period.

What medicine can be used to make plums bigger and sweeter?

During the plum fruit expansion period, spraying 300 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the leaves can promote coloring, increase sugar content and improve quality . Spray once every 7-10 days for 3 times in a row.

In addition, if you want to make the plums sweeter and more colorful, it is more common to spray them with pesticides . It is recommended that you spray them with Harvey Fruit and Yakult about twice , and then combine it with spraying foliar fertilizer.
