Which month is best for cutting white jasmine?

White orchid cutting time

White jasmine is usually propagated by cuttings in spring from May to June, but it is generally propagated by grafting. During grafting, the temperature should be kept at 20-25 degrees as much as possible, at which time the grafting survival rate is high.

White orchid cutting method

Soil selection: Generally, more breathable sandy soil is used for cuttings. The soil can be disinfected before cuttings. It can be soaked in potassium permanganate or formalin solution and then dried, or professional soil can be purchased.

Making cuttings: Select a disease-free branch from the white jasmine plant and cut it into a branch about 10 cm in length. Keep 3-5 pairs of leaves on the top and cut off the rest. In order to increase the rooting rate of the cuttings, soak the base of the cuttings in naphthaleneacetic acid for 6 hours. Take them out and let them dry naturally before preparing for cuttings.

Formal cuttings: In order to prevent the tissue of the cut cuttings from being damaged during cuttings, you can use a wooden stick to make holes in the soil and then cut the cuttings. After cuttings, gently compact the soil at the edge of the cuttings, and then water them appropriately. The first watering must be thorough, and be careful not to allow water to accumulate. Then place them in a semi-shaded place, and increase the light appropriately after 2-3 years.

Precautions for white orchid cuttings

Temperature: The temperature when grafting white jasmine should not be too low, but of course not too high, otherwise the branches will easily be infected by bacteria in the soil, which will affect rooting.

Avoid the rainy season: As mentioned earlier, the best time for white jasmine cuttings is May to June. It is best to avoid the rainy season. You can choose to do the cuttings after the rainy season because the humidity will be higher when there is more rain, which is not conducive to the rooting of white jasmine.

Cuttings selection: When choosing branches, try not to use 3-5 year old woody branches, these branches are extremely difficult to root. Generally choose 1-2 year old new or tender branches, and white jasmine cuttings require rooting powder. Therefore, it is best to apply rooting powder to the base of the cuttings before cutting, which can promote it to take root quickly.
