Key points of high-yield cultivation technology of cucumber

As a popular vegetable , cucumber is highly favored for its diverse eating methods and rich nutritional value. Not only can you eat it raw and enjoy its crisp taste, but you can also cook it to make a variety of delicious dishes. There are many users in our country who grow cucumbers. Let’s learn together the key points of high-yield cucumber cultivation technology.

1. Apply sufficient base fertilizer

Cucumbers have shallow roots, so the soil needs to be deeply tilled and sufficient base fertilizer applied before planting. It is generally recommended to apply about 8,000 kilograms of decomposed organic fertilizer, such as cow dung or pig manure, per mu, and then build ridges and cover the ground with film to prepare for planting.

2. Seedling selection and planting

Select grafted cucumber seedlings that are about 30 days old, have 3 to 4 true leaves, and are about 18 cm tall. When transplanting, choose a sunny morning or afternoon, avoid high temperature periods, keep the row spacing at 30x60 cm, and plant 3,500 to 4,000 plants per acre. After planting, water thoroughly in time to help the seedlings grow.

3. Management during the seedling stage

Water should be properly controlled during the cucumber seedling stage to promote healthy growth of the seedlings. When the plant grows about 6 leaves, it is necessary to erect an A-frame with a height of about 1.3 meters. The hanging seedling method can be adopted for greenhouse cultivation.

4. Water and fertilizer management during the melon-bearing period

When cucumbers begin to bear fruit, it is necessary to ensure sufficient supply of water and fertilizer. Use flooding to ensure soil moisture, and apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers . Apply 50 kilograms per mu in the initial stage and increase to 60 kilograms during the peak fruit-bearing period.

5. Flowering and thinning

Flower spotting should be carried out promptly when the female flowers first open, and growth regulators should be used to ensure even distribution of melons. Thinning flowers and fruits depends on the growth of the plants. For plants with strong growth, more fruits can be left, while for plants with weak growth, fewer fruits should be left to avoid the production of deformed fruits.

6. Pinching, cutting leaves and removing seedlings

After picking cucumbers, pinch off the top and cut the leaves to promote the rational distribution of nutrients. Pinching is usually done when the vine grows to about 1 meter, and leaf pruning removes the old leaves at the bottom of the main vine. Dropping vines means hanging up the vines to avoid using soil for landfill.

7. Spray foliar fertilizer

Spraying foliar fertilizer is essential for supplementing nutrients in cucumber leaves. A mixed solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate and fluid boron can be used for spraying.

The above is an introduction to the key points of cucumber cultivation technology. By following these planting and management measures, cucumbers can grow healthily according to their growth laws.
