How to grow and water cactus

As a member of the succulent family , cactus is known for its adaptability to the environment and easy maintenance. Not only is it tolerant of drought conditions, it thrives in poor soils and can survive almost anywhere there is soil. In recent years, cactus has gradually become a new favorite for home decoration because of its simple appearance and easy care characteristics, and has won the love of many plant lovers. Let’s learn how to grow and water cacti.

1. Watering method

Cactus is native to the desert and is therefore extremely drought-tolerant. When watering, avoid excessive watering to prevent the roots from rotting due to waterlogging and causing the death of the plant. Control the frequency of watering, keep the soil moderately moist, and avoid overwetting.

2. Lighting conditions

Cactus prefers a sunny environment, and its optimal growth temperature is 20-31 degrees Celsius. Although cacti are heat-resistant, excessively high temperatures and prolonged exposure to the sun may still affect their growth. Therefore, it should be placed in a sunny but well-ventilated place with a temperature not exceeding 35 degrees. When the temperature drops below 5 degrees in winter, it should be moved indoors to avoid frost damage.

3. Soil selection

Cactus does not have high requirements for soil, but in order to grow cactus well at home, you should choose loose and breathable soil to avoid lack of oxygen and water accumulation at the roots. A mix of half leaf mold and half granular soil is recommended to provide good drainage and aeration to promote healthy root growth.

4. Fertilization method

Use nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to meet the nutritional needs of cactus during the growth period. Spring and autumn are the peak growing seasons, while summer and winter are dormant periods. When applying fertilizer, adjust according to the growth conditions and seasons of the plants. Fertilize once every half a month during the growing season, and no fertilizer is needed during the dormant period. It can be applied 3-4 times in spring and no more than three times in autumn. Increase the amount of fertilizer appropriately during the flowering period to promote flowering.

I hope the above cactus cultivation and watering methods will be helpful to you. If you have more
