Will peony bloom if planted in spring?

Will peony bloom if planted in spring?

1. Will it bloom?

It is basically difficult to make peonies bloom in spring. As the saying goes: Peonies planted during the Spring Equinox will never bloom. Transplanting peonies during the budding period in spring will cause great damage to the plants, resulting in nutrient loss and difficulty in preservation. But around the Spring Festival, the peony has not yet sprouted and can still be transplanted.

2. Planting techniques

1. Planting time: The time for transplanting is generally in autumn, preferably from late September to early October. Dividing the plant in other seasons will have a negative impact on its growth, causing it to not bloom or even be difficult to survive.

2. Treatment of old plants: Generally, 3-4 year old plants are selected. After digging it out with its roots, place the roots upwards, shake off some of the old soil, and then cut along the direction of the roots. Each plant should have 4-5 buds. Cut off some thick roots and dry them in the sun for 1-2 days.

3. Divide and replant: Wait until the wound of the divided plant is dry, then you can replant it. When planting, the top of the bud should not be more than 5 cm below the soil, otherwise it will be difficult to germinate. Don't make it too shallow, otherwise it will easily get frostbite and reduce flowering. Cover the soil and compact it, then water it thoroughly.

4. Seedling maintenance: Be sure to pay attention to maintenance after transplanting. Place it in a cool and ventilated place, increase the light appropriately, but avoid direct sunlight. Do not water too much and keep the soil dry. Do not apply fertilizer as it will be detrimental to its germination.
