When to sow cucumber seeds

When to sow cucumber seeds

1. Sowing time

1. Spring: Spring is the best time for sowing. It can be chosen in early spring when the temperature gradually stabilizes and the open air environment has thawed. It is a good time for sowing, which is conducive to the early germination and growth of cucumber seeds and improves the germination rate. However, when sowing in spring, in order to avoid late spring frost and prevent damage to the plants, you can cover them with a layer of plastic film, which can keep them warm and moist and promote plant growth.

2. Autumn: Cucumbers can also be sown in late summer and early autumn. In southern regions where there is no frost, the planting time can be advanced and they will be mature and available in autumn. Generally, seeds are sown 70 days before the arrival of frost, which is from June to August. However, there are many disadvantages to sowing during this period. Serious diseases and pests are prone to occur, and the yield is relatively low.

2. Sowing Method

Prepare suitable seeds in advance and ensure they are of good quality, especially if they have a high yield. The seeds cannot be sown directly. They need to be soaked to germinate. The seeds must be selected and then soaked in hot water for 30 minutes. Then they must be washed and placed in clean water. After taking them out, place them in a warm place and start sowing them when the seeds turn white.
