What are leaves generally composed of?

1. Petiole

The petiole mainly plays a connecting role. It is the connecting part between the leaf and the stem. If this part is broken, the leaf will lose connection with the main body and will die. Its upper part is connected to the leaves, and the lower part grows on the stem. Generally, the petiole is at the base of the leaves and is a very important component.

2. Leaf stipe

The receptacle plays a very important role when the leaves are just growing. It is a small green membranous sheet that grows at the base and both sides of the petiole. It usually grows earlier than the leaves and can protect young leaves and small buds in the early growth stages. It is very small in shape, but some of its leaves are larger and the corresponding stipes are also larger. Its growth is quite special because for some plants, it will fall off quickly as they grow and change, while for others it will always stay.

3. Blades

It is the most important part of the leaf. The epidermis is composed of a layer of tightly arranged cells and has no color and is transparent. It contains chlorophyll, which can absorb sunlight and synthesize nutrients needed for plant growth.
