How to grow night succulents

How to grow night succulents

The succulent Quiet Night is a succulent plant of the Crassulaceae family. It has a very standard lotus shape, and the leaves are thick and full. The plant is relatively small and looks very delicate. Many people like this succulent. Let’s talk about the cultivation method of the Quiet Night succulent.

1. Growth habits

Quiet Night requires a sunny, cool, dry environment, tolerates partial shade, avoids waterlogging, and avoids high temperature and humidity. It has the habit of growing in cold seasons and sleeping in high temperatures in summer.

2. Environmental requirements

Too little light and too much watering in the growing environment can easily cause the plant to grow too tall, the leaves to become longer, and the red glow to become less and lighter. The cultivation environment should be well ventilated. It is suitable for planting on sandy or other substrates with better air permeability. Some hobbyists cultivate it by mixing garden soil, eggshell powder, coarse sand, peat, dried cow dung, vermiculite, etc. Due to its slow growth, excessive water and fertilizer should not be used during the growing period. In summer and winter, we must pay attention to controlling moisture. When the temperature drops below 5 degrees, the lower leaves of the plant tend to wilt or even freeze.

3. Soil

The potting soil must be loose and breathable, with good drainage and appropriate particle size. It can be prepared by mixing 3 parts of rotted leaf soil, 3 parts of river sand, 1 part of garden soil and 1 part of slag, and mixing it with a small amount of calcium (such as bone meal): sieve the materials to remove the fine soil, and for the sake of beauty, you can also spread a layer of granular material such as stone or expanded clay on the surface of the pot.

4. Watering

Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged to prevent rot, but the air humidity can be slightly higher. When the air is dry, you can often spray water around the plants to increase the air humidity, but the surface of the leaves, especially the center of the leaf clusters, should not be filled with water to avoid heart rot. Control watering to prevent plants from rotting due to high temperature, humidity and waterlogging. Watering should also be done in the evening or at night.

5. Lighting

The main growing season is spring and autumn, and sufficient sunlight is needed to keep the plants compact and bright, to avoid loose plant shape and dull color due to insufficient light. Silent Night plants grow slowly or completely stagnate and can be kept in a well-ventilated area, but it should not be too dark to prevent the plant from growing too tall. Best is "bright light without strong direct sunlight."

6. Temperature

The growth temperature is 15-25 degrees, not less than 5 degrees in winter, and can withstand temperatures of 0°C or even lower. In summer, when the temperature is high and the sun is strong, it will go dormant. Provide appropriate shade and reduce watering.

7. Summer maintenance

Pay attention to the high temperature in summer and try to avoid direct sunlight. Keep the plant in a well-ventilated place and be careful not to get wet in the rain. Long-term exposure to rain will cause the plant to rot.

The nightshade is a succulent plant of the family Aedescapae and the genus Echeveria, also known as a succulent plant. It is very small and easily grows in groups. When there is sufficient sunlight, red nails will appear on the top of the leaves.
