Cultivation methods and precautions of Chinese evergreen

Cultivation methods and precautions of Chinese evergreen

1. Soil

Peperomia is suitable for growing in loose soil with good drainage ability. It will grow poorly in soil that is too sticky. For potted cultivation, you can mix leaf mold, river sand and some base fertilizer, or you can mix peat soil and perlite.

2. Rizhao

It likes to be exposed to natural diffuse light and can be placed in a diffuse light place in the house. In spring and autumn when the sun is not very strong, it doesn’t matter if you get more sunshine. But in the summer, it needs to be shaded and can be placed on a north-facing balcony. Too much or too little sunlight is not conducive to its growth, so don't keep it in a too dark place.

3. Water

During the period of vigorous growth of the plant, there needs to be sufficient water, and the amount of watering can be slightly more. The temperature will rise in midsummer, so you can water more often, but pay attention to ventilation to avoid high temperature and humid climate that may cause stem and leaf rot. It can grow in dry conditions for short periods of time.

4. Fertilizer

In spring and autumn, you can apply fertilizer and water in small amounts and multiple times. The concentration of the fertilizer should be low, and do not apply raw fertilizer. Fertilizer can be applied once every 10 days or so, and a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be applied to variegated varieties. Generally, no fertilizer is required in summer and winter, as root rot is likely to occur.

5. Notes

The seedlings should usually be pinched when they grow to 10 cm in height to facilitate the growth of new branches. Also pay attention to preventing diseases and pests. Plants are prone to diseases and pests in a high temperature and humid environment, so pay more attention to ventilation.
