Why is the freesia not blooming?

Why is the freesia not blooming?

1. Insufficient light

Reason: Freesia has a higher demand for light before it blooms. Insufficient light will affect the differentiation of flower buds and cause the flowering period to be delayed.

Solution: Place the freesia in a sunny location. Since its flowering period is summer, the temperature in sunny places is higher and the light is also strong. If it is exposed to the sun, its growth will be affected. Therefore, it is necessary to use a sunshade net with a light transmittance of 70% to block the light so that it can enjoy the sunlight without being burned.

2. The temperature is too low

Reason: Freesia has high requirements for temperature. If the temperature is not up to standard, it will affect its development and cause it not to bloom.

Solution: Freesia has different temperature requirements during the flower bud differentiation period and the inflorescence growth period. After it grows 5-7 leaves, the temperature should be controlled at around 12-15℃, which is conducive to the differentiation of flower buds. In about a month, the inflorescence will develop. At this time, the temperature should be between 18-20℃ to accelerate its growth.

3. Too much watering

Reason: Freesia has a high demand for water during its growth period, but long-term moisture will cause it to continue growing and is not conducive to flowering.

Solution: During the flowering period of freesia, watering should be reduced appropriately, generally once every two days. Proper water control can help promote flowering, but it should not be too little, as lack of water will lead to poor growth.

4. Lack of nutrients

Reason: Freesia consumes a lot of nutrients when it blooms. If there is insufficient nutrients, its flowering period will be delayed.

Solution: Fertilize freesia appropriately. The fertilizer should be mainly phosphorus fertilizer. You can use potassium dihydrogen phosphate, dilute it fully and spray it on the leaves. It is not advisable to apply nitrogen fertilizer excessively during the flowering period, otherwise it will cause it to grow too tall and not bloom.
