How to grow four-season plum

How to grow four-season plum

1. Soil

The main requirements for the soil for growing Prunus armeniaca are looseness, good drainage and breathability. Therefore, sandy soil is better. Do not use saline soil or other alkaline soil. Moreover, the pot should be changed every one to two years. Most of the soil needs to be replaced. The requirements for new soil selection are the same as before. The basin can be replaced or not according to the specific situation.

2. Temperature

It likes warmth and is afraid of severe cold. The best temperature is usually between 15 and 20 degrees. It is important to keep warm in winter and keep the temperature above five degrees to ensure it can survive the winter safely. If it is too hot in summer, appropriate measures need to be taken to cool it down.

3. Fertilization

The four-season plum has certain requirements for fertilizer, mainly during its growth period. But you don't need to do it too often, once a month is enough. Nitrogen fertilizer is usually used, while phosphorus fertilizer is mainly used when flower buds are being formed.

4. Proper pruning

Pruning promotes the growth of Prunus armeniaca. The first step is to pinch the tips of the plants once or twice a year, which can effectively promote the growth of side branches, so that there will be more flowers in the future. Routine pruning mainly targets branches. Diseased and insect-infested branches as well as dense branches are our pruning targets. In addition, after flowering, the remaining flowers should be cut off.

5. Water

The four-season plum is particularly afraid of waterlogging, so just water it in moderation and never allow water to accumulate. During the rainy season, attention should be paid to drainage and flood prevention.
