Corn growth cycle

Corn growth cycle

1. Seedling stage

1. Sowing: A living seed is buried in the soil. If the temperature and humidity are suitable, a seedling will grow after about 6 days. When it grows to the three-leaf stage, the nutrients in the seed will be exhausted. This is the weaning period, which is the first stage of corn.

2. Jointing: The three-leaf stage is the first turning point of corn. It will switch from autotrophy to heterotrophy. This stage is mainly about the flowering of roots, leaves and stems. During this period, corn is drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging. Waterlogging will cause seedling death, while mild drought is beneficial to root development.

2. Heading stage

The ear stage refers to the period from jointing to tasseling, which is the second turning point of corn. During this stage, nutrition and reproduction take place simultaneously. This is the stage of most vigorous growth and development, and also the most important period for management. It is best to apply top dressing to supplement sufficient nutrients, promote leaf enlargement, and make the stems firm, so as to achieve the goal of large and numerous ears.

3. Flowering and seeding stage

The stage from tasseling to maturity is called the flowering and grain stage. At this time, all the leaves have unfolded, the plant has reached a fixed height, and entered the stage of reproductive growth, which is also its third turning point. During this period, we must protect the leaves from premature aging and damage, and strive to produce more and heavier grains to achieve a high yield.
