How to sow Albizia Julibrissin

Preparation before sowing

First, you need to choose seeds. It is best to choose a 5-10 year old dominant tree as the mother plant, ensuring that the mother plant is free of diseases and pests, has dark green leaves, and lush branches and leaves.

Collect the seeds in late May when the pods turn from light purple to brown but have not yet cracked. After collecting, spread the seeds out and dry them until the pods crack, then you can take out the seeds.

The seed rate of pods is generally around 20%-25%, and the germination rate is generally around 60%-70%.

The soil is best to be sandy loam without water accumulation or light loam in the rice field, and choose a location that is sheltered from the wind and facing the sun.

Plow the soil 15-20 cm deep. If the soil is not fertile enough, apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer. In order to prevent pests from attacking, apply 3% furadan granules and spray 800-1000 times dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane solution on the bed for sterilization and disinfection.

You also need to prepare the covering soil to be used after sowing and sieve it for disinfection.

Seed treatment

If the seeds of Albizia Julibrissin are not processed, the germination rate is extremely low, so they need to be processed before sowing.

One method is to soak the seeds in hot water. Soak the seeds in 70℃ hot water, cool them naturally until the next day, take out the dewaxed and swollen seeds, dry them in the shade, and place them in a greenhouse at 25℃-30℃ to germinate. After they turn white, they can be sown.

Another way is to blanch the seeds in boiling water. Wrap the seeds with gauze, not too tightly, and put them into boiling water for 15-60 seconds. Then take them out and immediately put them in warm water and rub them with your hands for 15-20 minutes. Soak the seeds until the next day, and then dry them in the shade to germinate and then you can sow them.

Specific methods of sowing

Seeds can be sown in the autumn after collecting or in the spring and summer of the following year, using the spot sowing method.

After sowing, cover the soil with 0.5 cm, and cover the ground with 2 or 3 layers of shade nets to prevent rain erosion and soil compaction. It can also have a warming effect if sowing in spring.

Post-sowing management

After the seedlings emerge, remove the covering, pull out the weeds, spray some fungicide, and water in time according to the soil conditions.

When the seedlings are 3-5 cm tall, spray 0.3% compound fertilizer solution or 3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution.
