In what season is it best to divide asparagus fern?

1. When to divide the plants

The season for dividing asparagus fern is mostly in spring, generally March to April is more suitable. Because the temperature rises at this time, it is conducive to its recovery. Since the high temperature in summer will cause it to stop growing and it is easy to be frostbitten in winter, it is rarely carried out in these two seasons. If the indoor temperature can be controlled well, it can also be carried out in autumn, but the recovery period may be longer.

2. Division method

1. Select the plant: Not all asparagus ferns can be divided. You have to wait until it is at least 2-3 years old. At this time, the root system is relatively vigorous and the division is easier to survive. At the same time, you should choose plants with more new buds at the roots, so that they can be divided into more small clusters.

2. Water and remove from the pot: Take it out before preparing to divide it. In order to remove it safely without damaging the roots, it is necessary to water it one day in advance. This will separate the pot wall from the soil, making it easier to remove the plant from the pot.

3. Division: After taking out the asparagus fern, divide it into several clumps. Since the soil is relatively moist, it is easy to separate, but be careful not to damage the roots. Each cluster should have 3-5 branches and buds, and they should be planted in new pots respectively. Since they have been watered before, they should not be watered in a short period of time.

4. Subsequent maintenance: After division, the asparagus fern should be placed in a ventilated place and avoid sunlight, which will help it adapt to the pot quickly. It is not advisable to water the plant before it acclimates to the pot. You can use a spray bottle to spray the plant to increase its humidity.
