How to raise a smooth sailing

1. Breeding environment

1. Flower pot: You can use any clay pot or pottery pot to grow the Chinese phoenix. The size of the pot can be determined according to the size of the plant, and the diameter can be within 18-34 cm.

2. Soil: If you want to grow a smooth sailing plant well, you need to use loose, breathable, nutrient-rich, and humus-rich soil. Specifically, you can prepare it according to the ratio of garden soil: leaf mold: fine sand = 4:3:2.

3. Temperature: Normally the temperature should be maintained at around 20℃. It should not exceed 24℃ in summer and should not be lower than 10℃ in winter.

4. Light: The plant can tolerate shade but not strong light. If it is grown outdoors, it needs to be shaded in the summer. If it is grown indoors, it needs to be placed where it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight in the summer.

5. Water. The plant likes moisture and cannot tolerate dryness. The soil must always be kept moist and cannot be allowed to dry out completely. It is best to water from the top down.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Seed propagation: Wait until October, when the seeds of the smooth sailing plant are ripe and can be collected. The collected seeds should be sown immediately after collection. First prepare a flowerpot and an appropriate amount of flower soil, then sow the seeds, cover them with a layer of soil, and finally water them thoroughly. Place it in a semi-shaded place with a temperature of 25°C and high humidity for maintenance.

2. Propagation by division: In autumn, cut off the small buds at the base of the plant and then move them to another pot. Also give it a moist and semi-shady environment, and it will sprout soon.

3. Common pests and diseases

1. Leaf spot disease. If spots start to appear on the leaves of a normally smooth plant, it is very likely that it has this disease. After discovery, the diseased leaves should be removed and destroyed in time, and sprayed with thiophanate-methyl or mancozeb.

2. Scale insects. If the number of scale insects is small, you can brush them off with a brush, then pick off the diseased leaves, and then disinfect with medicine; if the number of pests is large, you must spray the pesticide directly to kill them.
