Key points for growing petunias in pots at home

Key points for growing petunias in pots at home

1. Location

It is best not to place it on a north-facing balcony in spring, autumn and winter, because the light is relatively weak, and if it is placed in the north, the light will be even less. In summer, it needs to be placed in the east or north, because the temperature is very high and it needs shade.

2. Winter

One thing you need to pay attention to when spending the winter at home is that it can only survive the winter in temperatures above zero degrees. It is best to place it in a closed balcony with light so that wind, rain, etc. will not affect it. In addition, we also need to keep the soil in the pot moist and give it sufficient light. Of course, if the temperature on the balcony is particularly high, its flowering period will be advanced.

3. Flowering period

If you want it to bloom, the first requirement is that the temperature must be suitable. Only at a suitable temperature will it bloom. When it blooms, we need to pay attention to water and fertilizer, and also give it sufficient light. If the flowers are withered, they must be removed. Another benefit of picking flowers is that the leaves below will grow new branches and bloom again, thus extending the flowering period. During the flowering period, you cannot apply too much fertilizer, especially nitrogen fertilizer. If too much is applied, it will easily cause the plant to grow too tall and fall over.

4. Pruning

Pruning is necessary, especially if you keep it at home. In May and October, its flowers will bloom continuously and the vines will grow very long. At this time, we can shorten its stems, apply fertilizer to it, and keep the soil in the pot moist. Before long, new branches and new flowers will appear on the stems. Of course, if we are cultivating hanging plants, we don’t need to prune them.

5. Shade

Next year the temperature will be particularly high, so we need to cool it down and provide it with shade. It would be best to sprinkle some water on the ground around it and also provide some ventilation. Be careful not to overwater it, as this may cause the roots to rot. We should note that it is not resistant to high temperatures. If the temperature remains above 30 degrees, it will physiologically wither and die.
