Farming methods

Soil requirements

The requirements of the palace lantern kalanchoe for soil are not high, but it should avoid sticky and hot soil, as it will easily rot the roots. Loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil should be chosen. For home potted plants, you can mix equal amounts of leaf mold and garden topsoil, then add 5% coarse sand. Before planting, add some bone meal or nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to the soil as base fertilizer.

Watering method

The Kalanchoe regia is a succulent plant that contains a lot of water. It is drought-resistant and afraid of waterlogging. It can grow well, especially in high-rise cities where the air is relatively dry. There is no need to water it frequently, just water it once every 2 to 3 days, and it is better if the soil in the pot is relatively dry. If the temperature of the potting soil is too high, you can ventilate and cool it down properly to avoid root rot.

When watering, you should follow the principle of "water when the soil is dry and water thoroughly when watering". When maintaining the soil indoors in winter, you should increase watering and stop fertilizing. In spring and autumn, water the plant once every 3 days when the soil in the pot is dry. In summer, reduce watering and water it once every 5 to 7 days. If placed on an open-air balcony for maintenance, you need to pay attention to sheltering it from rain.

Lighting requirements

The palace lantern kalanchoe is not very demanding on light and can grow well under full sun, half sun and scattered light conditions. However, the Kalanchoe japonica prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight. Except for appropriate shade at noon in midsummer, it can be placed on the balcony at other times, and it must be guaranteed at least 4 hours of sunlight every day.

The flower pots in the building should be rotated every half a month to ensure that the plants receive light evenly and avoid crown imbalance which would reduce their ornamental value. But the stems are thin, the leaves are thin, and the flowers are few and pale in color, and are far less lush than in sunny places. If there is too much shade, not only will the leaves fall off and the flowers disappear, but even if the flowering plants are placed in the shade, the flower color will become dull, and the flowers will then fall off and wither. If you notice this phenomenon, you must supplement light in time.

Temperature requirements

The most suitable temperature for the growth of Kalanchoe chrysanthemum is 15 ℃ to 25 ℃. When the temperature is higher than 30 ℃, its growth will be slow and it will enter a semi-dormant state. In other words, Kalanchoe chrysanthemum basically does not grow in summer. However, if the temperature is below 10 ℃, the growth will stagnate, if it is below 8 ℃, the leaves will turn red and the flowering period will be delayed, and it is easy to get frostbite if it is below 0 ℃.

Therefore, after the beginning of autumn, that is, from early August to mid- September , start to increase sunlight. When the temperature is below 10 ℃, move it indoors in time and place it in front of a south-facing or west-facing windowsill to get more sunlight. Keep the night temperature at around 10 ℃ and 15~18 ℃ during the day, and it will bloom in December .

Fertilization method

The Palace of Kalanchoe likes fertilizer. Except for the summer, only nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer can be applied. When fertilizing, do not get the fertilizer on the leaves, otherwise the leaves will easily rot. If the leaves are accidentally dirty, rinse them off with clean water immediately.

Breeding precautions

Fertilize during flowering period

The flowering period of Kalanchoe is long, and each person has different habits. If you fertilize regularly, to maintain it, you must break the rule of not fertilizing during the flowering period and apply a thin nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once a month to ensure that the plant does not grow poorly due to lack of fertilizer after flowering.

To establish support

When the Kalanchoe japonica plant grows taller, bamboo poles should be set up to support it. Otherwise, the gradually growing stems and leaves will become crooked and look unsightly.
