Cultivation methods and precautions of Phoenix bamboo

Cultivation methods and precautions of Phoenix bamboo

1. Temperature

This plant prefers warm conditions. It is easy to maintain in the other three seasons, but in winter, if you go to the north, there will be problems with its maintenance. Therefore, in order to prevent it from being frostbitten, the temperature in winter must be above zero degrees so that it can survive the winter safely.

2. Lighting

It likes light, but is also quite shade-tolerant. However, in comparison, it grows better under good light conditions. Hence, there is a saying that “plants grow prosperously towards the sun”. So, it is best to place it in a place with diffuse light. For example, windows with good ventilation and lighting. Special attention needs to be paid in winter, as the sunlight at this time is important for its overwintering and sufficient light needs to be provided.

3. Soil

It likes acidic, but neutral is also fine. Specifically, the pH value needs to be between 4.5 and 7. Other requirements include looseness, fertility, and easy drainage. You can use farmland soil and mix it with some red soil, humus, fine sand, etc. Do not use alkaline soil or heavy clay soil from Thailand. If the alkalinity is relatively strong, you can add some ferrous sulfate to neutralize it.

4. Moisture

It likes moisture but is afraid of stagnant water. After planting, it needs to be watered thoroughly. At other times, just keep it moist without any accumulation of water. The number of occurrences is relatively highest in summer, once every one to two days. In addition to watering, you can also spray some water on its leaves frequently.

5. Fertilizer

Mainly organic fertilizer, decomposed feces, etc. They are mainly used as base fertilizer and mixed into potting soil. Alternatively, you can apply nitrogen fertilizer once a month.
